The Future of Business: Rethinking Remote Working for a Cleaner Planet

As the world's population continues to grow, so does our need for sustainable business practices. Telepresence robots are becoming more common in offices around the world as an eco-friendly way to meet Net Zero emissions goals and enable remote working without adding to transportation pollution. Telepresence robots allow employees who live far away from their work locations (or even on another continent) to join meetings, interact with coworkers, and visit clients virtually - all while reducing CO2 emissions.

The Australian Financial Review reports the number of ASX200 companies with net zero emissions targets trebled in the year to March 2021, including some of Australia’s biggest companies -  Commonwealth Bank, ANZ, National Australia Bank, Rio Tinto and BHP.

How does a company actually achieve Net Zero?

Well, that's complex, and a little outside the remit of this article (perhaps this PWC article is better at articulating that); however, increased productivity, a reduction in fossil fuel emissions (company and private vehicles) and reliance on technology and public infrastructure are just some ways companies can 'cut back' on waste.

Another often overlooked solution would be offering the option for remote working any day of the week. Whilst transportation to and from the office may still be required and not totally removed, remote working has been proven to reduce carbon footprints up to 80%.

But this now raises the next set of issues. How can your remote teams still stay connected to their in-office peers, and not feel isolated from their organisation? Zoom call fatigue, missed phone calls and short emails back and forth soon erode the morale of any productive remote employee. Then there's the missing out of watercooler talk, and the social aspect of being at work - these are all playing a  part in diminishing remote productivity.

The solution to diminishing remote productivity is simple

Rethink the way we manage remote workers and enable them with a tool that enables them to work anywhere, anytime but still feels like they're part of an office environment:

Telepresence Robots!

You're thinking, what is so different about these robots that Skype can't achieve, right? Well you're thinking of the robot’s main value proposition: Presence.

Remote workers need to feel connected to their environment, otherwise, they will experience isolation and that may lead to lower productivity, stress and a feeling they're the 'forgotten face' of the company. Telepresence robots are an ideal solution for this because they combine the mobility of remote working with the productivity of in-person meetings. It's a technology that is being embraced by large corporations.

Staying motivated, feeling like they're there, and improved social interactions are just some of the feedback we receive often when deploying the Double3 Telepresence robots in organisations of all sizes. CEO's who would only visit their offices once a month are now able to connect with their workforce on-demand helping bridge communications between the top and their 'boots on the ground', supervisors who can now provide 'face to face' support remotely to keep their in-office teams motivated and even wowing clients with virtual office tours and the likes.

Conclusion

At TeleIn we know that all of our customers are committed to reducing their carbon footprints and working towards Net Zero goals - and we know that employees can work from home without having their employers worry about what's happening in the workplace. With just a few clicks of a button, employees can join virtual meetings taking place at company HQ or catch up with their peers at the water cooler improving the entire WFH experience.

With remote working becoming more popular than ever - so it's no wonder technology such as the Double3 Telepresence Robot are becoming integral to businesses around the world.
